"I'd almost rather say I'm a pornographer," said a retired Wall Street executive who, for self-evident reasons, asked not to be identified. "At least that's a business that people understand."Yes, someone who likely collected those humongous bonuses is now feeling worse than a pornographer. How fast the so-called "best and brightest" have fallen. I find it fascinating he'd rather call himself a former pornographer.
I predict those Wall Street bonuses are already history. He'd rather say he's a pornographer. Think about that....
How long before the Principals of bushco are in the same boat?
Pornographers go into their trade with 'clean hands' so to speak. They learn this by watching the pox incurred by others over time in the same trade.
These capitalist mfs so to speak, watch others make millions and they say, no me, I want tens of millions and I want those monies right now. And they feel nothing because they are empty inside.
They managed to keep above the fray by paying off their pretend board of directors who are so beholden to them that they could meet as muppets and no one would know the difference.
I WANT ALL THE MONEY BACK AND I WANT IT NOW.
McClaskey did such a fine job orating her disgust on the Senate Floor after our New Prez called the entire matter anathema to our American Way of Life.
THEY, do no feel anything unless they are properly punished and fined.
Only 7 pm here and I am already on fire.
Let us mount our mighty steeds and seek out these blaggards.

Pornography is an ethnic business. A protected ethnic group.
Watch out, or you'll be in violation of 'hate speech' regulations here.
Watch out, or you'll be in violation of 'hate speech' regulations here.
Precisely what ethnicity are you speaking about? I am asking you because you have obviously done your research. What percent of the porno films that you watch on a daily basis are a specific ethnic group, and please name them with statistics.
Gee it's great to have an expert!
PS -- Do you prefer "Glide," or one of the others? Where can we find pictures of you, because you look a little "ethnic" yourself.

Do your own research on the subject. There's plenty of data out there.
The birth of the porn industry here can be tied chronologically to one of their largest (regrettable) immigration eras.
Why do you think we were turning those boats around?

I'm trying to get information from an expert on porn, which you claim to be. I want to tap your vast knowledge. Which "ethic group" do you prefer? The fact that you have such a strong opinion on this proves your exquisite (may I say that?) knowledge of the subject.
Please. Educate us. You know so much (about porn, obviously) and the rest of us don't. Teach us, Renaye -- Is that your stage name? Hey, Do you ever work with Harry Knipples?

Well, we all know there are a lot of big dicks on Wall Street.
Uh...er...could we not just call them Blaggards or something?

I remember when CEOs justified enormous salaries saying their contribution is worth more than highly paid sports personalities such as Michael Jordan. Now pornographers are the example? You're shit'n me!!
Holly crap'ola. Does it mean now that porn is given away free, bankers will give money away free too? Wow! Yipee!
That would be fantastic if weren't for the fact that it's the taxpayer's money in the first place.

JOBS AND BAILOUTS GOING TO EVERYONE EXCEPT LAW-ABIDING-AVERAGE AMERICANS
http://www.numbersusa.com/content/resources/video/commercials/elevator-commercial.html
On February 2, 2009, NumbersUSA with the Coalition for the Future American Worker launched the above "elevator ad" in an extended nationwide educational campaign on cable TV.
The purpose of the ad is to inform the public of two government statistics that, when placed together, show an outrageous participation of our federal government in increasing the numbers of unemployed Americans.
The two statistics from last year?
•2.5 million Americans lost jobs
•The federal government brought in 1.5 million new foreign workers to take jobs
NumbersUSA has been doing everything in its power the last three months to persuade the nation's political leaders and media leaders to address this incongruous policy. Yet to date, there has been no indication whatsoever of a slow-down in importing an average of 138,000 new foreign workers each month -- even as half-million Americans a month are losing jobs.
The fact is that U.S. immigration policies are on automatic pilot. It doesn't matter how terrible the economy becomes -- it doesn't matter that more than 11 million Americans are looking for a job and can't find one. No matter what, businesses can still seek to cut their labor costs by bringing in as many foreign workers as they did when the economy was booming.
The feds will keep cranking out 138,000 new work permits and green cards EACH MONTH to working-age foreign adults unless Congress and the President decide to change current policies so that they serve the interests of American workers.
What can you do?
•Call President Obama at 202-456-1111 and ask him to ensure that all new jobs created under a stimulus package go to American citizens and authorized immigrants already here. Tell the person answering the phone that the administration should suspend most work visas and green cards until it can be determined that issuing them will not harm the chances of unemployed Americans.
•Send a fax to your Senators urging them to make sure that only American citizens and authorized immigrants already here get jobs created by whatever economic stimulus package eventually is adopted.
•Fax your House Member thanking him/her for ensuring that the stimulus bill kept jobs out of the hands of illegal foreign workers but urging that in negotiations with the Senate businesses and governments should also be prohibited from using stimulus money to import more foreign workers.
•Forward this excerpt to as many local media outlets, blogging and web sites, so as to educate them about the statistics the media and government don't want them to know -- and to warn them what may happen to their jobs if they don't join you in taking action.

Well, you could have a "dayly" line and a "knightly" line!
You know what? I just got that joke
:-)
Like him or not, Larry Flynt never lost money in business and he is at least not a hypocrite. He's a lot of things, but no hypocrite. The thieves posing as bankers and businessmen all these years are nothing but hypocrites and incompetent thieves and hustlers to boot! Here they find themselves at the helm of a system literally rigged for them and they destroy it. They need to be put behind bars for their profligacy, their thievery and their fraudulent dealings... by the thousands!

I'm not a betting person. You may be right. But I agree, with many, that firms that took taxpayer money - due to huge losses - have no reason to pay out bonuses. Now, maybe you think students who do no work should get good grades anyway. And people who break the law should be allowed to get away with it. But most of society would not agree with that either.
Go in peace.
Go in peace.
There is already a government program in place whereby students who don't earn passing grades receive passing grades.
It's called 'affirmative action'.

Just thought you should know, Renaye, that this comment caused me to hit the "report abuse" button. Be ashamed.

Hit it until you wear out your mouse for all I care. Abuse what?? Don't you realize 'affirmative action' is a government program? Are you a bit daft?? Abuse??
I take it as a good sign that there's a very public shaming going on that may not help with our current problems in the short run but might drive some bright young people into other fields where they can try to make fortunes doing productive work. OTH that might leave the financial sector staffed by only the most cynical, ruthless and/or ethically challenged.
I know not all Wall Streeters are bad people, but every bit of the hate that most Americans have toward them is well deserved. Police departments try to clean up their own, but Wall Street has tried in every way to escape scrutiny and policing.
Too many years of entitlement. I think many of them are stunned at what happened and how they are being viewed. I think the halcyon days for NYC are over. It's too bad the financial sector is dragging the entire city down with it, not to mention us hicks in other places.
Being a thief was a job description on Wall Stret. As a country we have to get away from the attitude, "If you're not cheating, you're not trying!" It would be better to shame those who have cheated to declare that they did not win. Winners play by the rules, and cheaters will always have an asterisk by their accomplishments. I'm leaning toward the steroid scandal now, but that is an apt picture of this situation.
The banking industry created a performance enhancing vehicle that could not go the distance because it created an illusion of fitness that was not truly part of the organism. These few banks emerged on top until their drugs ran out. Now we see they really cannot cut it.

GregorZ, you have an image there that would make a great blog! Go for it! Excellent image. Helps people to see the problem. The cheating. The illusory fiction created by cheating.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Thanks for that, TheraP. I think it's pretty well encapsulated right here, though. More words would probably not make it better. But I will think about it.
No Gregor, TheraP is right!!! Go ahead. Tomorrow or the next day.
I leave it up to you, Gregor. It was a great comment. But if you choose to leave it as comment, well, I can't disagree. Always do what feels best for you - when it comes to blogging.
Oh, my. I was at HuffPo when Daschle stepped down. The trolls already were there, feasting on Killefer, and they just went wild at there.
I had to come here to read my fave TPM poster. Why didn't we insist on transparency and accountability with past administrations so this wouldn't be such a new experience for everyone? Barack Obama is blazing the trail. He will come through bloody from nettles and thickets, but unbowed, and the precedent will be set.

I love you, 4akinderworld!
It is a sad thing that our country has sacrificed its ideals as it has. I'm not sure when that happened. But it is a great tragedy and it will take hard work to turn things around.
As for trolls in a feeding frenzy, my image these days is like vultures picking on a carcass. Or circling what they view as a carcass. It's that negative side of our society gone wild. Very sad. Painful to watch people behave that way.
Yes, I believe Obama is trying to set a new tone. He has his work cut out for him. Each one of us can do our part, big or small.
Thanks for writing what you did here. You are always welcome to do that, whether what you have to say fits the topic or not. We all need places that offer warmth and hope - when the world looks dreary. (I'll be looking out for you.)
Peace be with you.

(I was sorry to see your post titled “RIP: Consumer Economy” disappear so quickly. I thought it raised the subject you allude to here in a very effective way and might have been a productive long term exchange.)
It may be revealing that the NYT chose to place this quote so early in an article about the Wall Street purveyors of bad debt. And why is pornography like greed? Pornography, like, greed, has been around since the beginning of time. Both involve self-deception and fantasy. Neither is endorsed in polite conversation. Both are rationalized as feeding some universal appetite. Perhaps this is the theme of the article. And perhaps the NYT is suggesting, as Woody Allen once said in its defense “Masturbation is having sex with someone you really love.”
Of course Jon Stewart has it right. They live in Bizzaro World.

The new software makes for more churning of blogs and less of a long term conversation - which is unfortunate, Larry. I did flag the conversation you and I were having at the other blog for quinn who was very intrigued by our exchange there and has a passion for discussing the economy. I also praised you to the skies to quinn.
Also, of late there has been an annoying bunch of trolls here - who may or may not be the same person (but that's irrelevant). However it also interferes with conversation.
The other option is to just go back to the previous blog and we can continue that conversation ourselves. Or you might want to take a look at quinn's long blog from the weekend (skipping over the trolls) and make use of some of that as well.
Look here for that:

Also:

- In addition to actually contributing to the economy, pornographers have never been personally responsible for destroying the economy
- Pornographers satisfy customers
Maybe this guy's on to something with this porn industry > financial services industry thing!

I can top the opening sentence; a pornographer, who was being threatened by a menacing crowd with crow-bars, was quoted thusly:
"Well, at LEAST I'm not a Wall Street Executive."
The crowd exchanged glances, nodded in approval, and slapped the porno king on the back and they all went out for a drink together. The following snippets were recorded:
"...victimless crime...at least he didn't screw my grandmother...the people in his movies have clothes to put on when the lights come back on...at least when he provides an inflated substitute, everyone has a smile on their faces...with this dude a "G" spot doesn't mean someone getting a gazillion in bonuses!"

You know, you are one sick old dog.
Oh, another quote: "That Renaye person -- I wish she'd kept her clothes on -- my eyes may never be the same! YUUUUUCK!
